Generate revenue from your website with these 10 things. Right now you have the time and can checkoff these to-dos before you open your doors again this spring.

I know it’s been rough these past 3 weeks working remotely, waiting to get a loan so you can pay your employees, and dealing with the emotions of clients wanting to pause their services with you. You are seeing that only telling on 1 stream of revenue doesn’t work. You have to have a way to work virtually and generate revenue from your website.

I keep thinking about the Bible verse that talks about separating the wheat from the tares, wheat from the chaff, or wheat from the weeds depending on the version of your Bible.

Your brick and mortar or service-based business can survive this! I pray as you read this even if you don’t believe the Bible is true and full of a TON of business wisdom that you are open to learning something to apply that will help your business not just survive but THRIVE this month.

24 Here is another story Jesus told: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a farmer who planted good seed in his field. 25 But that night as the workers slept, his enemy came and planted weeds among the wheat, then slipped away. 26 When the crop began to grow and produce grain, the weeds also grew.

27 “The farmer’s workers went to him and said, ‘Sir, the field where you planted that good seed is full of weeds! Where did they come from?’

28 “‘An enemy has done this!’ the farmer exclaimed.

“‘Should we pull out the weeds?’ they asked.

29 “‘No,’ he replied, ‘you’ll uproot the wheat if you do. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. Then I will tell the harvesters to sort out the weeds, tie them into bundles, and burn them, and to put the wheat in the barn.’”

So what does this have to do with how to generate revenue from your website?

There are many local businesses that from the outside looked like they were doing well but from the inside they are just weeds. I bet you will see a business you used to envy how successful they will NEVER reopen when the shelter in place order is lifted.

This time as also showed the true colors of the shady businesses.

Robert and I contacted about 50 people encouraging them to apply for the various loans that are available. I was shocked to hear that some cash businesses don’t file their taxes honestly or they pay their employees with cash to avoid payroll taxes.

Again, there is a sorting going on and I pray that your business is able to pivot and generate revenue from your website.

To-Do #5: Create A Sales Page

If you are a visual or auditory learner, watch this Facebook Live I did a couple of weeks ago.

I googled and this is what it said:

Sales Page Definition: A Sales Page is a single web page that has one particular purpose, selling one item. A Sales Page may also be called a Landing Page. Many sales pages have multiple up sells.

Let’s read that part again.

ONE purpose = selling ONE item.

“But wait, Liz, I’m not an online marketer…I have a brick and mortar or a service-based local business”!

I was in your same shoes in 2009 when I took my local personal training business online and created a hybrid business model.

Then we’ve helped hundreds of local businesses generate revenue from their website and having a sales page is a HUGE part of it!

To-Do #6: Create Really Great Content Weekly 

Yes, posting on social to look like you are open is great. But Google doesn’t show your Facebook posts when someone searches “dentist near me” or “how to make homemade toothpaste”.

You need a website and a blog so you can create really great content.

If you are like me, you start off with a video then you write the blog later.

Or maybe you start with a podcast then write the blog later.

If you are a local business you have to have a blog with really great content that leads people to your direct call to action like “buy now” or “schedule call”.

Or that leads to your transitional call to action where they give you their name and email to get something for free like a “website checklist” or a “video series to help them with their #1 problem”.

If you aren’t #1 of Google for multiple keywords so aren’t driving 1000s of visitors to your website a month, then you need to blog WEEKLY.

With clients, we blog weekly for at least 9 months then we transition to blogging monthly with a super indepth article that has the information you can’t find online from any other competitor.

This is a list of vendors that your customers can click a link and buy from their website but you get a commission for referring them.

Like right now people are staying in so if you are in the medical industry there are a TON of food affiliate programs.

To-Do #8: Create A Coupon Graphic that leads to generating revenue from your website today!

Our laundromat client likes to do this.

They use it when sending out their monthly email to let customers know about specials going on or laundry tips.

They also like it to be on the scrolling header image so people see the coupon graphic right away.

To-Do #9: Choose Only 1 Homepage Goal

I talk about this a little in To-Do #4 Facebook Live here. Let me know you watched it by liking an leaving me comments through the video. If you have questions, ask them over there.

When I say 1 homepage goal, I’m talking about choosing 1 button to have the same text and color 7 to 10 times on your website homepage. Take a look at our homepage and count how many times we say “schedule call”.

It is easy to see what step 1 is to work with us.

You need to do this also on your site.

Remove passive CTAs (call to actions) like “get started” and “learn more”.

Right now, if normally you want people to “schedule an appointment” but now your office is closed then change all your buttons to what you want them to do right now. Like “get virtual estimate” or “enroll now” if you have an online course you created with massages or stretches your partner can do to relieve your chronic pain.

Make a list of ALL your CTAs on your website homepage and count how many times you have your “homepage goal” button.

To-Do #10: Have Someone Review Your Website

You are too close to your business. Even if you are the marketing director or social media manager that also helps with the website. You are also too close.

You need an outside opinion to audit your website.

If you are waiting on your loan to come in start researching and interviewing marketing agencies who can help you update your website.

Keep caution.

Many graphic designers say they can build you a website.

Many web developers say they can build you a website.

But most of the time they didn’t go to school for marketing and they don’t have a background in copywriting.

You get what you pay for.

  2. How will it make my life better?
  3. What do I need to do to buy?

I think you will rethink and see that what you have on your website could convert leads better if you communicate clearly above the fold or before they scroll to scan your website.
